Graham will celebrate America's 250th year with words from Scripture and a time of prayer for our nation during a special gathering in Washington D.C.
Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, will share a message of faith and lead the country in prayer tomorrow during Freedom 250: Salute to America, a national celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
The historic event will take place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on July 4, and Graham’s remarks are expected sometime after 8:30 p.m. ET.
“I’m thankful for each pastor who was a part of this and for everyone who joined us in praying for the last 50 days. It is my prayer that our nation would turn to Jesus Christ and be One Nation Under God,” Graham said. “Just because we have reached the final day of our 50 days of prayer does not mean this is the end. This is just the beginning! Every day, we need to be praying for our families, our churches, our leaders, and this nation. God is the One Who has kept our country through every storm, and we must continue to call on His Name as we face the days to come.”
Graham has called Christians across the United States to prayer during critical moments many times before, including in 2016 when he prayed at all 50 state capitals, and in 2020 when he led a Prayer March at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
His father, Billy Graham, also recognized the importance of praying for our nation. When he stood on the steps of the U.S. Capitol building in 1952, he called on Congress to establish a national day of prayer, a special day now observed in the United States for the past 75 years.
