Pibor County in South Sudan is experiencing catastrophic flooding.

Heavy rains have caused catastrophic flooding and displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

The South Sudan government has declared a state of emergency due to severe flooding in about 30 counties in the east and northeast parts of the country. More than 900,000 people are affected, with Pibor and Maban being two of the hardest-hit areas. Hundreds of thousands are now considered internally displaced as their homes have been damaged or totally destroyed. It is estimated that more than 200,000 children are among the displaced and face extreme malnutrition.

In Maban alone, more than 200,000 people are suffering in the flooding aftermath. Maban is one of six project locations throughout the country where Samaritan’s Purse has already been working to relieve suffering and to share the hope of Jesus Christ.

Samaritan’s Purse is responding to the catastrophic flooding in Greater Maban County, where homes and roads have been submerged under water and livestock and food supplies were swept away. Access to hospitals and schools is also hindered.

In the coming weeks, our teams will provide emergency shelter materials to more than 800 vulnerable families, especially focused on assisting women, children, and the elderly. We will also distribute non-food items such as blankets, mosquito nets, cooking pots, and sleeping mats.

Please pray for the people in South Sudan as flooding is expected to continue for several more weeks. Pray for our teams as they help flood victims in Jesus’ Name.
